PSHE

PSHE/RSE

Our intent is to provide and academic PSHE curriculum that provides opportunities for students to reflect on and clarify their own values and attitudes and explore complex and sometimes conflicting range of values and attitudes they encounter now and in the future. Our PSHE curriculum focusses on three core themes:

• Health and wellbeing

• Relationships

• Living in the wider world

Our intent is to enable students to become healthy, safe, independent, responsible members of society who demonstrate respect and tolerance and who are prepared to face and manage the challenges and opportunities of an ever-changing modern Britain.

PSHE in practice

The sessions are led by tutors in year 10/11 and specialist teachers in KS3 and 5. In addition PSHE involves a range of speakers from external services, which allow expert views and knowledge to be shared.

PSHE covers a wide range of topics from personal safety, relationships, health and well-being to future plans and aspirations. It gives students the chance to explore a broad range of issues and content in a secure environment and to acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to manage aspects of their lives. Much of PSHE is about having the knowledge to make informed choices, to ask questions and be responsible for their future decisions.

The topics covered in each year group are shown below. We follow a spiralised approach allowing for the development of some topic areas as pupils progress through the year groups.

Resources

Students are each given a PSHE booklet at the beginning of every term, which allows them to complete activities and record important information during their lessons. The contact details of further sources of support or advice are also shared with them.
